SMI Foreign Employment Agency has dispatched its seventh group of ship welders to Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. This initiative reflects the agency’s dedication to connecting Sri Lanka’s skilled workforce with global industrial leaders.

The selected welders, certified in Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), departed on February 26, 2025. Their deployment aligns with South Korea’s shipbuilding industry’s increased demand for skilled labor. Notably, Samsung Heavy Industries and its subcontractors had employed 782 foreign workers by the end of December 2024, with plans to increase this number to around 1,200 in 2025.
